PROS | PROS |
Very capable 1440p card. Much cheaper than RTX 2070 Super. Six display outputs. | Exceptional performance. Extensive use of RGB LEDs complements illuminated PCs. Four-year warranty coverage. More display output options than competing cards. |
CONS | CONS |
Expensive compared to other 5700 XTs. Bulky cooler makes for a tight fit in many cases. | Axial fans exhaust waste heat into your case. Cooling solution is louder under load than other Turing-based cards we’ve tested. Triple-slot form factor takes up lots of space. |

OVERVIEW
RX 5700 XT:
I am using GIGABYTE Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB AORUS in this review.
Gigabyte Aorus 5700 XT is really a big graphics card. It’s actually the thickest 5700 XT.
This version is a thick but it’s not the heaviest model that we’ve come across. In fact, at just 1,174 grams, it’s actually lighter than most of the other high-end models.
You will find a trio 80 millimeter fans embedded and the centrally located fan spins counterclockwise to reduce turbulent air.
On the back, there’s a full-size back plate which Gigabyte using as a heat spreader to remove built-up heat from the PCB using a number of large thermal pads behind the GPU and GDDR6 memory.
So the back plate isn’t just there to look good but it does a pretty good job of that and I quite like the look of that pressed Aorus logo.
The I/O pannel is quite different to almost every other RX 5700 XT. It has 3 display port and 3 HDMI ports, so that is a rather interesting configuration. The good news is that you can connect up to 6 displays simultaneously.
RTX 2080 Ti:
I am using Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 Ti Xtreme in this review.
I think this Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 Ti Xtreme is probably the best-looking RTX model. of course, you can enjoy RGB lighting. Gigabyte’s RGB game certainly has been on point over the years and I absolutely loved their RGB lighting. Overall, this new RGB lighting method really is incredible and it actually looks better than Gigabyte Aorus 5700 XT. So, if you after flashy RGB effects then this card will really impress you.
This card measures 29cm long, 13.4cm taller, and 6cm wide, making it a triple slot card. It weighs 1402 grams which actually makes it heavier than Gigabyte Aorus 5700 XT. Overall design of the card looks reasonably impressive.
The plastic fan shroud has some nice silver aluminium trimmings and there trio 100 millimeter fans that look quite interesting, particularly the center fan. In order to avoid the turbulent air, this stack design would create the center fan spins in an alternate direction and then finally to maximize endurance, the fans feature double ball bearings.
On the back side of the card, we find a large aluminium backplate featuring a large LED backlit Aorus logo which is of course RGB LED backlit. It weighs at 124 grams and on the underside features 3 high quality thermal pads which extract heat from the backside of the PCB and namely behind the GDDR6 memory chips.
The I/O panel, we find 3 DisplayPort, 1.4 outputs, and 3 HDMI 2.0 B outputs along with a USB Type-C port with virtual link support.
PERFORMANCE
The system that I’m testing with has an Intel i7-8700K CPU overclocked to 5GHz on all cores in an MSI Z390 ACE motherboard, along with 16GB of DDR4-3200 CL14 memory in dual channel. Testing was done with the Windows 1909 and with the latest versions of Nvidia and Radeon drivers available at the time of testing, so with all of that out of the way let’s get into the results.
ASSASSIN’S CREED ODYSSEY
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was tested using the built in benchmark. As you can see in the graph, RTX 2080 Ti was 21FPS faster.
SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER
Shadow of the Tomb Raider was tested with the games benchmark tool, and the results were not close, with the RTX 2080 Ti is 33FPS ahead of the RX 5700 XT at 1440p resolution.
METRO EXODUS
Metro Exodus was tested in campaign mode. In this test it’s a win for the RTX 2080 Ti, which was scoring around 24% higher average FPS over the 5700 XT at at 1440p.
A PLAGUE TALE INNOCENCE
A PLAGUE TALE INNOCENCE was tested using the games built in benchmark tool, and the RTX 2080 Ti is in the lead here, granted only with 46% lead at 1440p.
FAR CRY NEW DAWN
FAR CRY NEW DAWN saw some interesting results, the average FPS was higher with the RTX 2080 Ti in my test, however RX 5700 XT was just 11% behind.
CONTROL
It’s a different story in Control, this time the RTX 2080 Ti was coming out ahead of the RX 5700 XT. In terms of average frame rate, the 2080 Ti was around 44.8% faster at 1440p.
WORLD WAR Z
WORLD WAR Z was tested using the built in benchmark, and the RTX 2080 Ti was ahead again in terms of average FPS, with just 23FPS lead over the 5700 XT.
BATTLEFIELD V
Battlefield V was tested in campaign mode, and was another win for the RTX 2080 Ti, at least in terms of average FPS, as the RTX 2080 Ti was 24% faster.
WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD BUY?
The clear winner here is RTX 2080 Ti as it is 26% faster in terms of performance, when compared to RX 5700 XT. If we compare price, the RTX 2080 Ti is expensive, so which one you should buy? I think it all depends on your needs, if you need a cheap or average performing graphics card then you should go for RX 5700 XT. But if you don’t care about money or you need a powerful graphics card then you should go ahead with RTX 2080 Ti.
