DETAILED REVIEW:
DESIGN
Acer Spin 3:
So it’s a convertible laptop means it can flip 360-degree and its not heavy like other convertible laptops. It has got a very good quality 360-degree hinge and it allows the laptop to use it as a traditional laptop and if you flip the screen it becomes a tablet and you can hold it with both hands. It also has a tent mode where you flip it and it takes the shape of the tent. And it’s very useful if you want to show something to someone sitting around the table. There is one another mode which is a display mode and in this mode its just an inverted laptop. That means the screen comes close to you and keyboard get away from your way.
HP Pavilion 360:
HP Pavilion 360 is design in quite a premium fashion which is perfect for professionals, students, and for normal person as well. The first half of the laptop is slathered in a silver paint and a reflective HP logo in the centre. The edges of the hood and the deck curved outward and then inward. Thus it creates an “R” glass design that surrounds this laptop.
Opening the lid reveals the black tone of the deck, a carved out section for the keyboard at the centre and the vent grill for the awesome speaker just above it. There is also a fingerprint reader to the right of the touchpad. The thin bezel and edge to edge keyboard are designed beautifully to maximise the plain keyboard area.
KEYBOARD & TOUCHPAD
Acer Spin 3:
This laptop’s keyboard has a regular layout and space between keys is OK. The typing experience was not so good as the keys were a bit soft and thus the feedback was not so accurate as well. And if someone is used to with this type of keyboards then he/she is going to have their accuracy in no time.
However, the Acer Spin 3 does not have backlit which is a little disadvantage while working at night. And also the keyboard is quite chattery.
And for the Touchpad, Acer used plastic touchpad with precision drivers. But it works well enough and the size of the touchpad is pretty average.
HP Pavilion 360:
Here, the keyboard experience is satisfying. The keys are very smooth and it just need a decent amount of force and travel before they hit the bottom. Here, we also have got backlit which is kind of nice because we don’t get to see any backlits on the Acer Spin 3.
Now, the touchpad is made of plastic and it also has windows precision drivers. It can handle Windows 10 gesture quite nicely. I can’t complain anything about the keyboard and the touchpad as they are pretty nice for using and you will get use to it pretty quickly.
DISPLAY
Acer Spin 3:
It has a full HD 14″ 1920 x 1080p resolution with a widescreen display and it has an LED backlight IPS panel and it also supports multi touch and the screen has very slim bezels and its less than 0.5-inches which gives almost 80% screen-to-body ratio which is pretty nice for a convertible laptop. The screen is very bright and it gives about 240-nits of brightness. So it should not be a problem using the laptop in the bright light environment.
The contrast level is quite nice and even, the screen produces really deep blacks. It has a 178-degrees of wide viewing angle. Means the photos & videos are going to look quite nice even at very skewed angles and it supports Widows 10 multi-touch features.
HP Pavilion 360:
HP Pavilion 360 display is flanked with 14″ full HD backlit multi touch panel. The panel is quite glossy and it makes it a little frustrating to look at. It’s not too bright and it maxes out at 261 nits.
However, the touchscreen is super responsive and I have no issue when using the laptop in the tablet mode. The panel covers 60% of the SRGB color gamut which is duller than the main stream laptop in the similar category.
SPEAKERS
Acer Spin 3:
This laptop has speakers which are front-firing and this speakers are behind the grill and at the top of the keyboard and its a very ideal position for the speakers as it will remain in the front whether its laptop or tablet mode. It maxes out at 75 dB and the audio quality is fairly well and you will be able to hear each and every beat very clearly.
HP Pavilion 360:
Here the speakers are good according to the price of the laptop. The speakers are not super loud but it’s good if you are sitting in a room.
PERFORMANCE
Acer Spin 3:
It’s a very a versatile laptop and it’s going to be useful for someone who is student and it’s also going to be very useful for someone who is not a student who wants to use it casually for web surfing or something more than that and it’s very powerful according to its price so you would be abble to accomplish any task that you want to do.
HP Pavilion 360:
It has an Intel Core i5 10th Gen processor with 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of SSD. This laptop can juggle chrome with 20 tabs open, Microsoft office and light photo editing without a sweat. Quad Core 8 way processing provides maximum power to go. The Intel turbo boost technology delivers dynamic extra power when you need it.
BATTERY
Acer Spin 3:
Over here, we get a very large battery than what you will get on other laptops under this price range. It has 60 Wh battery and Acer claims that it can last upto 12 hours with just a single charge. With the efficient hardware and right screen brightness it you might get an battery life from 4.5 to 7 hours while doing multitasking and you might get somewhere around 9 hours of video.
HP Pavilion 360:
Now, HP claims that the laptop can lasts up to 10 hours of battery life in a single charge. Which is not true, I was just able to get 4 to 5 hours of battery life with 50% of brightness.
However, the battery can charge upto 50% within 45 minutes which is quite nice.
PORT SELECTION
Acer Spin 3:
Here, we have 2 LED lights which displays battery status, Kensinton Lock, HDMI port, headphone jack, a USB 3.0 port are on the right side of the laptop. And a charging point, SDcard slot, stylus’s charging slot and stylus of course, power button, and USB 2.0 port on the left side.
HP Pavilion 360:
On the left side we have one USB 3.1 type A port, a headphone jack, air vents, power on/off buttons which also acts as sleep button and Kensington lock as well. On the right, we have got too many ports, a charging port, HDMI port, another USB 3.1 type A port, USB-C port which is sadly not thunderbolt 3 and does not even support charging, and lastly we have SDcard reader and a notificaton light as well.
WEIGHT & DIMENSIONS
Acer Spin 3:
It weights 1.70 Kg/3.7 pounds and it measures 13.19 x 9.06 x 0.82 inches.
HP Pavilion 360:
It weights around 1.58 Kgs/3 pounds and its measures are 11.6 x 7.9 x 0.8 inches which is a little heavy for 11-inch system.
WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD BUY?
According to me, Acer Spin 3 is the best laptop as it is bright enough. It has a bigger screen, better battery life, better display and better speakers as well. So for me Acer Spin 3 is the best overall laptop for a student and professional as well.
