DESIGN
Samsung A51:
The design is really pleasing and it’s very classy. It’s all plastic but it really feels nice, unlike other devices in this range that still come in great colors but have a very plasticky feel to them making them seem a little cheap and besides it doesn’t seem the kind of phone that would attract too many fingerprints or dust otherwise.
The size of the device is also really convenient. It’s really not very big and it’s quite lightweight as well. Honestly, it looks good when you’re holding it and that’s what you pay for.
Samsung S10 Lite:
There is a small centered hole punch like on A51. There’s also a wider camera bump on the back and no headphone jack. There’s no IP rated protection and the phone isn’t made of glass. Instead the back is made of a material Samsung calls it GLASSTIC. This means the S10 light is just as slippery as a regular glass phone and collects just as many fingerprints but it’s surprisingly light despite its size.
In fact, the phone is so large that one-handed use is quite difficult even with the multiple gesture navigation options that the UI offers.
There’s the Android 10 gestures, the Samsung gestures, and the classic navigation buttons. You can also adjust the back gesture sensitivity.
CAMERA
Samsung A51:
On the A51, the four lenses are a bit overkill, I mean the pixel three that it just find with a single lens but I see the appeal, consumers want their devices to look more sophisticated and I mean this does the job.
Now in reality, the 48 megapixel shooter is not an exceptional performer. It’s got all the same main features that you would expect from a Samsung phone. The features that I love but the actual image quality performance is slightly lacking in comparison to a flagship phone.
Ultimately, it comes down to your smartphone photography needs, I know for me this is more than satisfactory.
Samsung S10 Lite:
Most of the phone camera must perform well in excellent lighting conditions. In order to test the s10 lite cameras, I took most of the shots on a dark and cloudy winter day. The results were really impressive, the pictures come out sharp, detailed, and color reproduction is usually accurate.
The main complaint is that the wide-angle shots could have more detail and sharpness. If you take pictures on a nice and sunny day the quality is even better as there a little bit more detail, dynamic range is usually on point, and overall the charts come out really nice.
The S10 light cameras are pretty impressive in low-light, both in aura and night modes. It’s worth mentioning that the night mode works with both main and a wide-angle cameras.
There is a dedicated macro lens which can produce quite sharp, close-up pictures with a minimum focusing distance of 3 centimeters.
I like the overall selfie and portrait image quality. Low-light selfie quality is quite good even though it’s not the best I’ve seen.
The S10 lite sunlight can record videos in 4k in both 30 and 60 frames per second. The overall video quality is really good.
DISPLAY
Samsung A51:
This is 6.5 inch Super AMOLED 1080p display at $320, I think this is the best display you can have on a mid-range phone currently. It really does look great when watching media or playing games, the experience is really good. If you’re someone, who really values a high quality good color display then this phone is the one to go for.
Samsung S10 Lite:
The 6.7 inch AMOLED has a full HD resolution and supports HDR 10+ content. It’s actually a larger screen than the S10+ and it’s almost as large as the one on the note 10+.
It’s not the sharpest screen out there with an unimpressive pixel density of 394 PPI but other than that this display is excellent.
Sunlight legibility is great and it got up to 700 nits of brightness in auto mode. The screen also had impressive color accuracy in natural mode but vivid is the more pleasing setup.
AUDIO
Samsung A51:
Sadly, the A51 does not have a dual speaker setup which you may have been hoping for. But honestly, the single bottom firing speaker was perfectly good for watching hours of YouTube on end and it gets plenty loud which is great. The speaker on top will be used for your phone calls.
Samsung S10 Lite:
You will find a single bottom firing speaker which is more good than A51. Sadly, there is no headphone jack. Yes, the dosen’t provide good clarity when compared to S10 lineup. Watching content with these speakers is definatly not a good option, I will recommend you to use headphones.
PERFORMANCE
Samsung A51:
The phone comes with the Exynos 9611 which is not that bad. You can play PUBG with 60FPS at low setting. While playing the game I didn’t find any issues but after the certain time, the phone will start heating and then you will some throttling.
Samsung S10 Lite:
The phone has a Snapdragon 855 chipset and it’s plenty fast. You can also upgrade the storage via microSD card slot. I played quite a few different games on the highest graphics settings and they all ran absolutely fine. I played asphalt extreme, asphalt 9, and PUBG for hours, and I enjoyed flagship grade graphics performance.
SOFTWARE
Samsung A51:
The Galaxy A51 comes with Samsung’s latest OneUi 2.0 over Android 10. Some of the new features include a dark mode for your menus and a new set of gestures for navigation. You also have edge panels here which can be pretty handy, swiping on the edge of the screen will bring you to a customizable space for shortcuts.
Samsung S10 Lite:
The OneUI 2.0 is based on android 10 and it’s typical Samsung loaded with features and customization options. I like that there are many ways of customizing the screen including the always-on display that compensates the lack of the LED notification light. There is also a dark mode and you can also choose classic and gesture based UI navigation system. The overall performance has been really good. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference between this phone and the other flagship phones.
BATTERY
Samsung A51:
The phone’s battery life is definitely going to last you all day long. I personally get a day in half that’s with Wi-Fi, cellular data turned on all the time, and with my brightness turned up to 80%.
Samsung S10 Lite:
Samsung hasn’t skimped is the phone’s massive 4500 mAh battery. No matter how you use your phone, it’s bound to last a while as it’s scored an excellent 110 hours in our endurance tests. The 25W charger in the box allowed for some speedy charging, we can get from 0% to 63% in 30 minutes and it takes 62 minutes for a full charge which is quite respectable.
WHICH ONE YOU SHOULD BUY?
At the end of the day, S10 Lite is a much better phone in every scenario when compared to A51. But if you just need a good performance or you want to do gaming then I will recommed you to buy A51 and it will also save your money.
