INTRODUCTION:
Here, we are comparing the HP Zbook Create G7 and Dell XPS 9500. The Zbook Create is definitely one of the strongest laptops out on the market, even stronger than the Ryzen laptops that we have seen with eight cores. The XPS 9500 has been a lifesaver and we could have used a lower-end model to do the same thing but I think there are a few key features here that made this as awesome as it is. Let’s get into the detailed review.
DESIGN & BUILD:
HP Zbook Create G7
The Create G7 feels and looks great. The aluminum base has clever beveled borders, neatly-milled air vents, and a smart bang and Olufsen grille. Along with the lid interrupts exactly the exact same material using a shining Zbook emblem.
If you look at the aesthetics of the laptop itself, it’s very light for how strong it is. Also, the build quality is very good. The foundation hardly budges, the lid is hardy as well as the hinges are reassuringly smooth. It’s examined and rated to withstand falls, effects, dust ingress, and hot and cold temperatures. All this comes at a 1.92 Kg body which’s 18mm thickness by 354mm broad, it’s barely a bruiser.
The Zbook’s keyboard appears smart, using a sunken chiclet layout, and quality levels are great. The keys are quick, consistent, and silent with a good quantity of travel plus a solid foundation. To get a pure typing adventure, this keyboard provides similar quality to the Dell and much more traveling compared to Apple.
Dell XPS 15 9500
You will be shocked at how small this laptop actually is. It does have a gigantic 15-inch display but the laptop itself feels almost like a small 14-inch laptop or even a big 13-inch gaming laptop. The Dell gaming laptop that I have is huge compared to this size on a laptop.
Another physical thing that I’ve really liked is the keyboard. This keyboard is actually pretty good. If I had to complain about something I would mention the same thing that I mentioned about the larger MacBook, the keyboard is just a tiny bit more spread out than I’d prefer. These keys are a little more subdued than the Apple ones but they still feel good and have enough spring in them that it’s pretty easy to get into a good typing rhythm. In addition, Dell has easily the best trackpad in the Windows laptop game. It takes up such a big space of the body of the computer and while it’s accurate enough to not need a mouse all the time. The most important thing to get right when you start implementing these larger trackpads is palm rejection. As larger the trackpad is the more likely your palm is to brush against it. This one thankfully has pretty good palm rejection. If it’s working well you’ll never even think about the palm rejection but the second your cursor starts going all over the place or erroneously clicking while you are trying to work, then it becomes the worst thing ever.
DISPLAY:
HP Zbook Create G7
The display has slender bezels and the sides have a slick brushed finish. Quality levels are exceptional. The Create G7’s measure peak brightness of 688 nits is enormous which is greater than HP’s planned figure. It matches using a black line of 0.41 nits to provide a contrast ratio of 1678:1. This is about as good as it gets for a notebook IPS screen. The color temperature of 6.251K is strong, the Delta-E of 2.75 is great. It left 99.3% of the sRGB color gamut and 95.4% of the DCI-P3 color area. Uniformity amounts are adequate means the panel is quite consistent.
The screen is far better than the Macbook Pro’s Panel also it’s equally as excellent as the 4K panel extended in the Dell XPS 15. For different reasons; HP’s panel has more brightness and contrast but Dell’s screen can take care of the Adobe RGB color gamut.
Dell XPS 15 9500
It’s probably one of the reasons that you’re looking at one of these computers in the first place, the display. The screen that comes on this comparison model of the Dell XPS 15 is the 1080p display, it’s not technically 1080p because it’s a much taller 16 by 10 aspect ratio but it looks gorgeous. Resolution isn’t everything in life and despite it lacking a bit compared to the Apple display’s retina panel resolution or the Razer panel’s refresh rate, this is the best-looking display on a laptop right now period. Not only is it the best looking but that extra real estate on the bottom is actually a usable amount of workspace, you actually get more functionality out of the computer because you have more room. When you get into the zone typing or working, those super thin bezels are not even noticeable and as somebody that does a lot of work on Macbooks, those bezels never go away. They’re always judging plus with up to 500 nits of brightness and a p3 color accuracy, it’s so good.
FEATURES:
HP Zbook Create G7
This laptop is an AMOLED screen with a 4K i9 10885H processor, 32 GB of RAM running at 2933 millihertz, and then a 2 terabyte SSD. This laptop also comes with a graphics card which is an RTX 2070. This is great for creators essentially. This is probably the laptop for you if you’re a creator and you have that much of the amount spend on a laptop like this one.
Over the display, you’ll come across a Windows Hello 720p webcam. This does have a Bang & Olufsen sound bar that goes straight across the keyboard. This one also comes with a fingerprint scanner, just really easy to get into your system. This system also has TPM 2.0 plus a ton of BIOS security choices.
About the HP Zbook Create’s right side, you’ll find two USB 33.2 Gen 2 Type-C interfaces that encourage 10GB/s data transports, and Thunderbolt 3 along with a mini-Display port output along with a full-size SD card slot. On the left-hand side, you have a full-size USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface which runs at 5GB/s along with a sound jack and a Kensington lock slot.
The speakers are amazingly good, also incredibly loud, amazingly bassy, and with great balance. The only issue is that the tinny top-end. For casual media and audio, however, the HP is decent. Internal connectivity is managed by dual-band Wi-Fi.
Dell XPS 15 9500
In terms of upgradeability, the XPS 15 gives you an additional M.2 slot letting you have two of your very own solid-state drives running at once. Plus, you can also upgrade the internal RAM with its two slots.
The next thing that I’ve really liked is the port selection on the computer. This year’s model of the XPS 15 is lacking compared to previous years as there is no HDMI port but at least Dell does include the dongle for HDMI and USB-A in the box with the computer. Here, on this computer, you do get two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one on each side but additionally, you have a USB-C port that can basically be a charging port plus you get the SD card slot and it’s not a micro SD card slot but a full-sized one.
PERFORMANCE:
HP Zbook Create G7
The processing grunt comes in an Intel Core i9-10885H, which can be an eight-core mobile powerhouse. It’s got a foundation and increase speeds of 2.4 GHz and 5.3Ghz and Intel vPro for extra security. There’s a generous 32GB of all dual-channel memory and a 1TB Samsung PM981 SSD that delivered excellent read and write rates of 3440 MB/s and 2870 MB/s respectively.
The RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU is quick. Its 3D Mark Time Spy consequence of 6565 is almost two times as fast as the Dell which utilized a GTX 1650 Ti. Also, in Cinebench R15’s graphic evaluation, it scored 138 fps which is over ten frames supporting the poorer AMD GPU within the Macbook. From the Dirt Rally and Horizon Zero Dawn benchmarks at total HD and maximum graphics settings, the HP Create returned frame rates of 109 fps and 55 fps that the Dell Xps could just afford 42 fps and 38 fps.
The sound levels aren’t bad, and also the warmth amounts aren’t a massive problem if you’re utilizing this notebook at a desk. The temperatures are also not hitting the peak level to get you uncomfortable.
Dell XPS 15 9500
This has no graphics card, this has no high-powered i7 processor but for what we’ve needed, this computer does all of it flawlessly. The four core 4.5 gigahertz i5 processor has been remarkable, even when doing more power-oriented tasks like video editing, this 10th gen intel CPU was even powerful enough to do 4K video editing if you were able to lower your playback resolution and you even got a decent render time. So, even if you bought the cheapest base model of this, you could use this for 4K video editing in a pinch. Of course, this will not perform great in benchmarks because it’s lacking that dedicated graphics card and it doesn’t have as high of an end of an integrated GPU as the Apple M1 or 11th gen Intel processors but it’s not half bad for what it can do at its price. If you do want more power, this can go up to an eight-core i9 processor though, I would be concerned about the thermal performance of the chip in such a small computer. This particular model I have does not have a dedicated graphics card, you can get a model with one of those though.
If we’re discussing Windows laptops to Windows laptops, there isn’t much that I haven’t liked. If we stack this up against those new M1 Apple laptops, there could be more things that I could mention on like fan noise, battery life, and power for the price. I only have one major complaint about this computer and it’s the graphics card option. The 1650Ti isn’t all that old as far as laptop graphics cards go, you can find it in a lot of the more budget option computers that still want to have a dedicated graphics card and for gaming, it’s fine. It works perfectly well on older AAA titles. For productivity or creation, the 1650Ti is not a good option. You can get a huge i9 processor but you can’t get the latest NVIDIA encoders or ray tracing technology brands.
BATTERY:
HP Zbook Create G7
This Zbook Create G7 lasted for around 5.5 hours at a working benchmark together with the screen at full brightness. This is reasonable longevity to get a method with high-end elements similar to this. Both the Dell and Apple machines lasted only for 2 hours at precisely the exact same test. Keep in mind that if you’re pushing the Create G7 with demanding content-creation programs then battery life is going to have a considerable hit.
Dell XPS 15 9500
This has two options in the battery size; 56 WHr and 86 WHr. In mixed usage with a 86 watt-hour battery, this laptop got around 10 hours of battery life and in the movie playback test, surprisingly it got only around 6 hours. So, if you purchase the laptop with a 56-watt hour battery, then you might have less battery life than this assumption.
WHICH TO BUY?
Both these laptops are nice ones to use but the XPS 9500 is not great as the Zbook Create. If you refuse to give the new M1 max and Zbook Create a shot, I will recommend the XPS 15. The display is amazing, the port selection is great, power is decent for the price so long as you’re not doing big video edits. The Zbook Create G7 will be recommended for professionals who use the laptop for high intensive works.
