DESIGN

HP Elitebook 840 G7

The design of the HP Elitebook 840 G7 has changed from the previous model the HP 840 G6. The biggest change is that it’s thinner and lighter and this is mainly due to the reduced bezels around the screen.

This is a mid-range business laptop and it sits between the Probook series and the Elitebook 1000 series. The only difference between this model and the smaller ones, the Elitebook 830 G7 is the screen size.

The overall build feels like good quality and the display hinge folds all the way back 175 degrees. However, other laptops go all the way to 180 degrees, so this one feels a bit awkward.

The trackpad is nice and wide and it feels like the pad sits too far to the left. This model comes with an extra right and left mouse button along with a rubber point which I know some people prefer over the trackpad.

The keyboard is a delight to type on and does not bend when pressing the keys. Also, the letters printed on the keys are bigger than normal which would be great for some users.

It feels so nice from the texture of the laptop finish. It’s got more of a hard feel to it which is kind of nice. I think it’s going to be more durable than the previous T490. The hinge is still plastic as well. It hasn’t actually changed in weight but dimension-wise, it will be. It may be a little bit more thinner but not by much.

The bezel-wise, I think it’s going a little bit thinner. The bezel is a little bit more narrow which is a good sign because I find the T-series a little bit wider than I would like it but it’s nice to see with the T-14, they’ve actually made it more narrow.

The keyboard is still nice and got a bit of tactile feel to it. I think they may have lost a little bit of key travel. I also feel that the actual keys are a little bit harder in texture size for it, so definitely much more durable.

It’s not as soft as before but definitely nice to see. It also got the track point in the middle of the keyboard which is great to see. You’ve got the left and right mouse click in the middle classification as well. As for the trackpad, it’s good. It’s still mechanical as well.

The texture feels to that is more between glass and plastic. Keyboard-wise, I definitely always love the Thinkpad range of keyboards, they’re well known to be very durable and just a good feel to them. The function key is still on the left-hand side and of course, there’s going to hack on software-wise that you can actually flip.

DISPLAY

HP Elitebook 840 G7

The 840 G7 comes with a 14-inch FHD LED anti-glare HD display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 and 250 nits of brightness. Because the bezels are thinner, the laptop footprint is smaller so you are saving space on awesome bezel overhang.

Lenovo Thinkpad 14

For the display, the one I’ve got is the full HD non-touch version of the display, there is a touch version as well and there’s also an HD, 4K, and privacy screen version as well. If you don’t know what the privacy screen version is, basically that limits the viewing angle of the display to about 70 to 90 degrees.

If you’re in a tight area like in a plane or on the train, you don’t really want other people to look at your sensitive data and that’s what really is good for. I think it might have actually improved since the T490, I do find it a little bit more bright. I also find the color looks to be a little bit more vibrant than before.

When it comes to the glare of this display, it definitely picks up the sun. I don’t think this is the kind of thing you’ll be wanting to use outside but no laptops really particularly good outside.

BATTERY

HP Elitebook 840 G7

The laptop uses around 7 to 31 watts of power and you can expect to get around 11 hours of battery life. Charging the battery will take just under one and a half hours.

Lenovo Thinkpad 14

We’ve got a thin battery. For the power, it puts an output of 20 volts and 3.25 amps. Lenovo claims around 9 hours of battery life but in reality, we get around 5 hours of battery life.

WHICH TO BUY?

Both of these Elitebook 840 G7 and Lenovo Thinkpad 14 works better for all types of casual works and office works but looks-wise, the Elitebook 840 G7 is more modern and sleek laptop for carrying around on the go. On the other hand, Thinkpad T14 is a bit less in price comparing it to the Elitebook 840 G7.
