So, who is the best laptop GPU manufacturer? Should you choose the RTX 3080 from Nvidia or the RX 6800M from AMD? To find out, I compared both in 8 games at 1440p resolution!

Because the RTX 3080 is available in 8 or 16 gigabytes of GDDR6 memory, it can have more or less than the 6800M. The 6800M has a faster memory speed, while the 3080 has a larger memory interface and more memory bandwidth. CUDA cores and stream processors are not directly comparable.

I’m using the MSI GE76 RAIDER for the RTX 3080 and the ASUS STRIX G15 for the RX 6800M in this test. Both were put through their paces with the same memory kit and an external monitor to bypass the integrated graphics.
The ASUS STRIX G15 is an all-AMD laptop that performs well in gaming, productivity, and music. The display, on the other hand, might be brighter and the SSD could be faster.
The MSI GE76 Raider is a capable laptop with some of the most cutting-edge hardware on the market. It is, however, prohibitively expensive, and it is so hefty that you will not want to use it for commuting.
PERFORMANCE: RTX 3080 vs RX 6800M
I have compared all the games at highest settings. So, let’s begin by comparing the two laptops in eight games at 1440p resolution. After this we will talk about pricing and which GPU will be better for your next gaming laptop.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Let’s start out with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which was tested with the game’s benchmark. At 1440p the 3080 was reaching just 2.7% or 2FPS higher average frame rate when compared to the 6800M. RTX 3080 is winning because of more VRAM.
Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 was tested with the game’s benchmark. And both GPU were giving more than 80FPS at very high settings. The 3080 was just 2 FPS ahead of the 6800M at 1440p.
Control
Control is a Nvidia’s sponsored title. At 1440p, the 3080 was reaching an 12.8% higher average frame rate, however there was a larger 13.2% boost seen in the 1% low.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was like four frames higher on the 3080 laptop on average, however the 6800M was also not reaching a higher 1% low.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn was also tested with the game’s benchmark. The 3080 was almost 10FPS ahead, a big difference at 1440p resolution.
Metro Exodus
Metro Exodus was ahead on the RTX 3080. At 1440p, it’s got a 14% higher average frame rate compared to the 6800M, so more stable on the all Nvidia laptop.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 was tested with the game’s benchmark, and the 3080 was in the lead here. Both GPU were almost giving 80FPS at high settings which is great result.
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider
At last I have tested Shadow Of The Tomb Raider with the game’s benchmark. And like all the game titles, RTX 3080 was the winner here. At 1440p, it was almost 10% ahead in terms of average FPS.
CONCLUSION: RTX 3080 vs RX 6800M
Without a doubt, the RTX 3080 offers greater advantages, but it costs substantially more than the 6800M laptop.
If you truly want Nvidia and the better ray tracing and DLSS performance, you might get a cheaper 3080 for around $2000. However, those lesser options may only have 8GB of VRAM and a low power limit, resulting in worse performance than what I’ve showed here.
I tested the RTX 3070 against the RX 6700M, and that one’s particularly interesting.
I should also mention that neither laptop had any issues with driver stability. At 1440p resolution, all eight games worked flawlessly.
Because the laptop chassis are too different to evaluate things like thermals and battery life fairly, I haven’t done so.
